I’m sorry, but where the fuck did common sense sneak off to? Is it simply that every flog with an opinion (myself included) now has a platform to share it on social media? Or is it that somehow global brain capacity is diminishing? I fear it is possibly a combination of the two.
Whether it is:
* People with immense political and public power standing up for a convicted pedophile
* Denying climate change
* Entire industries with their heads in the sand about the need for change and progress on a whole range of topics, not least of which is consumer expectations.
* People opting not to vaccinate their kids because Sharon down the road heard that it causes autism, or because John’s kid got sick from the vaccine (he didn’t)
* Unions with an aim of delivering wealth rather than fair working conditions
* Believing that there is a simple solution to the Murray Darling Basin issues
* Believing that running with either an extreme left or extreme right political view could ever actually benefit the nation as a whole.
and on and on it goes.

I don’t want to live in a world where our lack of climate action leaves my children struggling to deal with the consequences. I don’t want to be part of a world where the incidence of disease actually increases simply because people decided Sharon knew more than years of replicated and peer reviewed trials. I refuse to sit by and watch the sheep industry drift along, continually surprised by community dissatisfaction with outdated practices. I don’t want a nation dominated by powerful unions, and ridiculous labour costs.
I want a nation built on common sense and fairness. Unfortunately, that seems less and less likely, with every day that passes. In a modern world where science should be at everyone’s fingertips, the internet, one of the greatest developments in modern history, actually has the potential to send us backwards. Actually send us backwards! Simply because as a nation, we would rather listen to Sharon or John down the road, than trust science.
